Border Eats

Border Eats strattles the lines of two cultures and unites them at the dining table. Thousands of immigrants crossing these lines to find a better way of life and staying authentic to their birth country while adapting to the newness of a region they now call home. Immigrants on a hunt to maintain their roots introduce a culinary way to bridge our borders.

Border Eats is very much alive along the southern border of the USA where many Mexican Restaurants reside and have been there since the early 1920’s. Its culinary adaptability has impacted its spread and popularity on a global scale and its presence in the United States is no exception.– Take The El Charro Café… established in 1922 and considered the first border eats and longest standing Mexican Restaurant in the USA. While Mexican food is the most notable of the bunch with thousands of immigrants moving to the country over the last few decades, there are other culinary catalysts uniting different borders and people within the USA. You’d be surprised to learn about the hidden gems and culinary explorations of countries and cuisines that bring communities together at the dinner table along a border. Border Eats is a union of the cuisine and culture you heard of but never tried before. Join us as we play with our palates and dip our chips into a new kind of salsa.

Border Eats brings together two cultures by uniting them with food and family. The concept explores cuisines from one region penetrating another and introducing a new cultural spin on food. The idea here is not only the food, but the struggle that brought this new community to the border and why. There are several known hotspots alone in the united states that really play to this idea. We have French cuisine along the US/Canadian border, while Haitian and Creole food have also penetrated the south. Their original recipes and dishes are still very much authentic although they may no longer be in their mother country’s kitchen.

Format:
Each half-hour episode consists of two or three storylines. The show will explore 2 cuisines along an unlikely border, where they’re derived from and the community built around the food. We’ll talk to chefs that create the cuisines and the struggle they’ve had to endure to get their restaurant up and running. Plus, we’ll dive into the history of the food and take a look at how the community is receiving the food at large.
